Karate Olympic Sport vs Kyokushin
Katate in Tokyo Olympics 2020
There was an official announcement that Karate will take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, we Kyokushin-kan is not directly associated with these Karate groups. They are under JKF (Japan Karate Federation) or WKF (World Karate Federation) which consists of traditional Karate organizations. Some Kyokushin groups have yielded their policy to adopt their rules to this traditional style. However Kyokushin-kan stands in a position to pursue full contact Karate which was the fundamental philosophy of Sosai Mas Oyama and will not bend our mind to adjust to such a style.
Although we welcome the idea that Karate will get into the Olympics because the population of Karate practitioner will increase and there will be a chance where full contact rules will be accepted in the future. At this point, we will keep concentrating on full contact Karate, and the KWU (Kyokushin World Union) will be the main channel to aim full contact Karate into the Olympics in the future. As our next step, we will work together with the KWU to host the 3rd Kyokushin World Karate Championships in Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on November 25-26, 2017. We hope to see many Kyokushin fighters from different organizations participate under full contact rules.
Thank you very much for your kind understandings and cooperation.
